Learning and Development
"We achieve what we do because of our people. We choose them very carefully, and just as important, they choose us very carefully"
Maurice Flanagan, Executive Vice Chairman - Emirates Airline & Group
People are the heart and soul of the Emirates Group, therefore recruiting, training and retaining high calibre people is one of the core values of our business.
In recognition of the importance of self-development and increasing knowledge and skills, Emirates operates high-calibre training programmes, which are accessible to all individuals across the Group.
These courses are facilitated through a variety of media including classroom based, on-the-job, online (eLearning), practical assessment, simulation, project-based or a combination of these options (blended).
A network of Learning Resource Centres (LRC) exists in various Emirates Group buildings in Dubai, providing an environment for self or group-based study away from the busy workplace. In addition to this, My Learning Zone is the Emirates Group learning portal. It provides a one-stop location for accessing training and development information and for online learning courses for all employees.
Reliability, safety and on-time performance are pre-requisites for a successful airline, and engineering excellence is the only means to achieve this. At Emirates Engineering, we provide a wide range of intensive technical training programmes for both expatriates and UAE nationals.
The company follows a transparent and performance-based review system. All employees are put through a set development plan, which in turn helps them in their career progression within the Emirates Group.
The Engineering School is GCAA and EASA 147 approved and provides courses to EASA level 1, 2 and 3 and ATA level 1, 2, 3 and 4 standards.
Carefully selected school-leavers may join either of the two apprentice training programmes.
• A two-year expatriate apprenticeship programme, designed for school-leavers with the right to reside and work in Dubai. This programme includes classroom, workshop and on-the-job hangar training. Successful students can gain a GCAA / EASA Part 66 'A' license.
Approved aircraft type training is conducted on Airbus A310, A330-200, A340-300, A340-500 and the new A380-800 plus the Boeing B777-200, 200ER, 200LR, 300 and 300ER variants. Our aircraft type training utilises advanced computer-based systems, including Airbus VACBI and Boeing CBT programmes, together with ground-based maintenance simulators to allow the students to practise the required procedures in a controlled environment under an instructor’s guidance.
• A General Civil Aviation Authority approved five-year programme designed for United Arab Emirates nationals. This programme includes classroom, workshop and on-the-job hangar training and leads to accreditation as a skilled aircraft mechanic. Fully-equipped to ICAO standards, the extensive training facilities include basic engineering, machine welding, and composites repair, airframe, engines and avionics workshops. Graduates from this apprenticeship programme may then acquire an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's licence and subsequent type approvals.
There are also some Graduate Trainee Programmes running specifically for UAE nationals. The main objective of these programmes is to train and develop UAE nationals in the engineering fields and enable them to be employed in responsible positions in Emirates Engineering.
